In case you didn't hear, Dom Capers is now the new Defensive Coordinator in Packerland.  Capers (wikipedia entry here) hasn't been a head coach since 1995, with Houston.  He was most recently the Patroits' secondary coach.

That's a big deal, right? Well it's nothing compared to the 3-4, the Packers new defensive scheme.

The Packers have been a 4-3 defense since Fritz Schmur took over the defense in 1994.  McCarthy wanted to change to the 3-4 because he believes it will allow the Packers to put more pressure on the QB (see McCarthy press conference from Jan 19).  Capers ran the 3-4 with Carolina and Houston and... now Capers is the new Defensive Coordinator.

So along with a giant comeover, the Packers inherit the 3-4 with Capers.  Capers on the 3-4:

"...there are more 3-4 teams in the AFC than in the NFC... It's about preparation. When you go into training camp you're going to designate so much time for the people you're playing against. Then if you've got to go five or six weeks playing against a 4-3 and then a 3-4 pops up... I  felt we had a tremendous advantage."

Who will play in the 3-4?  McCarthy said that Cullen Jenkins and Aaron Kampman will be "excited" about the move to the new defense.  Jenkins will obviously be in the defensive line (the '3').  But Kampman could be moved to outside linebacker. Will Kampman be "excited" about playing a new position? We're not so sure.

We see the front three: Colin Cole, Jenkins, Johnny Jolly and Kampman.  LBs: AJ Hawk and Nick Barnett and Brandon Chillar with an opening for one player.  Maybe Kampman or a free agent (Ray Lewis?).

Regardless of who plays where, it's time to read up on the 3-4 versus the 4-3.  Also, take our poll and tell us what you think about the 3-4:
